Сегодня я хочу поговорить о книге Джейн Харпер – «Засуха», 2008 года издания. Это австралийский детектив, рассказывающий нам о выдуманном местечке, под названием Кайверра, в котором происходит тройное убийство.

Главный герой, Аарон Фальк, приезжает на родину, в Кайверру из Мельбурна на похороны друга Люка, его жены Карен и сына Билла Хэдлеров. Все обставлено как самоубийство с расстрелом собственной семьи, но никто особо в это не верит – Люк был любящим отцом и не имел проблем с психикой. Но самая противоречивая деталь – погибла не вся семья. Младенец Шарлот, осталась жива. И вот завязка сюжета.

Правда логикой сюжет не особо страдает. Прямо с первых же строк мы это понимаем. Вот вдумайтесь:

Дед и бабка, родители покойного Люка, не доверяя местным полицейским, вызывают из Мельбурна старинного друга семьи, работающего полицейским. По расследованию экономических преступлений. Тут не только конфликт интересов – Фальк лично заинтересован любыми способами обелить имя друга, но и специальность другая. Или в Австралии это норма? Там без разницы в каком департаменте служит полицейский, как его тренировали и чему учили? Он в любой момент и деньги в офшорах найдет, и убийство раскроет и наркокартель накроет. Универсальный боец.

Но на самом деле, книга неплохая. Убийцу я не угадала, но тут скорее всего не только мой косяк, но и сам стиль повествования. Большая часть сюжета раскрывается курсивом – это мысли второстепенных героев(откуда бы их знать детективу?), дневники, воспоминания Фалька и прочее. И все это возникает внезапно, без всякой логики, просто порой, посреди диалога героев. Странное решение, конечно.

Но по факту, все подсказки по поиску убийцы в тексте есть. И это не спойлер – несмотря на то, что в начале нам все говорят, что Люк совершил все это сам, в это никто не верит, даже читатель. Потому что, иначе зачем это все читать?

По итогу, могу сказать – детективчик неплохой, на один раз вообще шикарный. И очень доставляет надпись на обложке – переведена на 20 языков. Зачем? Поверьте, никто вообще ничего не потеряет, если не приобщится к шедевру.
